The Bergen County NJ SKYWARN Net On May 29, 2001
On May 29, 2001 at 2:50 PM The NWS Upton, NY issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning (Text below) for Bergen and Passaic Counties. At 2:55 PM a Bergen County SKYWARN Net was activated on the 10-70 Repeater and Check-ins were taken. Below are still images from the NWS Upton, NY NEXRAD Radar related to this event. As you can see, the event developed over our area and the Severe Weather event timeline was just over 30 minutes. During that time, several reportable and timely events were received by Net Control from SKYWARN Spotters and communicated directly to NWS meteorologists. The data collected during the SKYWARN Net was used by the NWS to update additional Severe Weather Warnings issued as the stormline moved to the East away from Bergen County.
